Microcrystalline Cellulose (MCC) is a purified, partially depolymerized form of cellulose obtained from highly purified wood pulp or other suitable cellulose sources. It is a widely used pharmaceutical excipient, binder, diluent, anti-caking agent, stabilizer and texturizer.

Cellulose consists of crystalline and amorphous regions. During controlled processing, much of the amorphous portion is removed or reduced, leaving small crystalline cellulose particles.
